Lizardmen
Sylass  18/02/2008 - 21:27
Thanks to GeOrc for what looks like a new green of "Oxayotl", one of the Skink special characters.

A possible explanation why there's a "new" Lizardmen miniature now:

It is the Spanish GW Games Day. Juan Diaz is the Spanish sculptor of these miniatures. All miniatures are officially unreleased but sometimes many years old (like the SM character and the Farseer) and some even unofficially released (sold on ebay). So all these miniatures including the lizard are just a showroom for the work of the national GW sculptor. No new lizardman (or Eldar, or Blood Angels) release in the near future. Sorry to shatter some hopes here.

Hordes of Chaos army book rumours
Avian  12/02/2008 - 12:22
The book is due in November 2008. It will focus on the mortal followers of the chaos gods, with more unit choices than currently, and no(?) daemons. It may or may not include things like Dragon Ogres, Ogres and Trolls.

The name of the book is supposedly: Warriors of Chaos

Probable new models
- Plastic Chaos Knights
- Plastic Chariots
- Plastic Chaos Lord
- Plastic Chaos Sorcerer
- Plastic Warhounds
- Unknown number of new metal models

Probably due for release early in 2009, though this is speculation.

Edit: Also it was not the rulebook. It was the box art.
The first edition was three rulebooks in a box.

Chaos Daemons army book rumours
Avian  07/11/2007 - 10:13
Chaos Daemons army book

The book is out in May 2008, meaning that some stuff goes on sale late in April.

How will this army book interact with the Hordes and Beasts of Chaos army book?
It appears that it is a stand-alone book, similar to how the Daemonic Legion
list was and how the Daemon Codex for 40K has been confirmed to be.

What about the Daemons in the Hordes of Chaos book?
It would appear that these are used as they currently are until the Hordes book is redone in November this year. So for about six months there will be two sets of rules for Bloodletters, Daemonettes, etc.

How am I supposed to play a god-specific list now that I only have three different units and three different characters to choose from?
It appears at the moment that the idea will be that you can play god-specific lists (since each god had two Lords, one Hero, one Core unit, one Special unit and one Rare unit), but that it will be very limited and that the norm will be to play mixed armies.

New models

Bloodletter of Khorne on Juggernaut (box of 1 metal mini)
Bloodletters of Khorne (box of 10 plastic minis)
Daemonettes of Slaanesh (box of 10 plastic minis)
Flesh Hounds of Khorne (box of 5 metal minis?)
Fiends of Slaanesh (blister of 1 metal mini)
Beast of Nurgle (blister of 1 metal mini)
Plaguebearer command group (box of 3 metal minis)
The Masque, Herald of Slaanesh (blister of 1 metal mini)
Skulltaker, Herald of Khorne (blister of 1 metal mini)
Epidemius, Herald of Nurgle (blister of 1 metal mini)
Karanak, Flesh Hound champion (blister of 1 metal mini)
Herald of Khorne on Juggernaut (direct order only(?), 1 metal mini)

Daemon Spearhead box (32 minis)
- The army book
-10 Bloodletters
-10 Daemonettes
- 5 Fleshhounds
- 1 Bloodcrusher
- 1 Beast of nurgle
- 1 Fiend of slaanesh
- Epidemius
- The Masque
- Skulltaker
- Karanak

Models expected at some later date
- remaining five special characters (possibly not the greater daemon ones)
- plastic Horrors
- plastic Plaguebearers
- plastic Daemon Prince and/or Herald
- new Seekers of Slaanesh minis

Remember that no rumours of changes for a unit/character does NOT imply a rumour of no changes for it.

Army composition and special rules:
- Instability is altered somewhat, now there is no special effect of rolling above your basic Leadership, so you just take a modified break test and lose a number of wounds equal to the amount you failed the roll by.
- Supposedly, units within 12" of the army general may take their Daemonic Ward save against any kind of attacks, not just non-magical ones. Units more than 12" away from the general follow the current rules for Daemonic auras.
- The restrictions on not mixing followers of different gods unless your general is Undivided is almost certainly gone.
- The list of daemonic gifts will almost certainly be altered and extended, though it is not know by how much.
- As with all previous books in this edition, characters will almost certainly only take up a single character choice.

Signature special rules
Khorne: Killing blow, Hatred, Magic Resistance
Slaanesh: Armour piercing, Always strikes first
Nurgle: Poison, Regeneration
Tzeench: Magic, Flaming Attacks

Slaanesh has the overall best movement (anything apart from Daemonettes and Heralds on foot is M10), Khorne has a bit less than that and Nurgle and Tzeentch has human-level movement (though some units have M6 or can fly).

Daemon Lores of Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch
- Different from the ones in the other two chaos books.
- Almost certainly only useable by characters from this book.

Daemon Lore of Tzeentch
- Supposedly only 6 spells
#1: Flickering Fire of Tzeentch: D6+1 hits, Strength D6+1, 18" range, 4+
#2: Boon of Tzeentch: Gain d3+1 Power dice only the caster can use. 3+
#3: Glean Magic: Cast any enemy spell (other than one that creates new models, such as certain Undead spells) as a Bound spell with a power level equal to its basic casting level. 7+
#4: Gift of Chaos: Each enemy unit within 12", including units in combat, take D6 S6 hits. 9+
#5: Bolt of Change: D6 hits, Strength D6+4, 18" range, 12+
#6: Tzeentch Firestorm: Target unit takes 2D6 S5 hits, every 3 wounds caused creates a Horror. New unit is worth 50 VPs and placed within 3" of the target unit. 24" range, 13+

Daemon Lore of Slaanesh
#1: Enemy unit must test for Stupidity each turn for the rest of the game

Lords
- Greater daemons are supposedly more modifiable than currently, more resembling how they were in 5th edition. It is possible that the basic ones are weaker than currently, to make them more useable in smaller battles (i.e. at or just above 2k), but that they can be significantly improved, similar to the new Vampire Lord can be.
- It is probably not possible to buy outright stat boosts (+1 WS, S, etc.), if previous army books are anything to go by.
- Greater Daemons stat line is rumoured to have 5 wounds across the board, with a 5+ Ward.
- Rumours that Greater Daemons will go on bases four times as big as currently are nonsense. The models stay as they currently are.

Changer of Ways, Greater Daemon of Tzeentch
- Level 4 wizard
- Can take 100 pts of Daemonic gifts, including an additional head (the extra brain gives a +2 bonus to casting), Master of Sorcery (knows all spells from one Lore in the rulebook) and Tzeentch's Will (re-roll one D6 per turn)

Keeper of Secrets, Greater Daemon of Slaanesh
- Level 2 wizard, may be upgraded up to level 4
- Movement 10, WS9, S6, A6
- Always strikes first
- Can take 100 pts of Daemonic gifts, including Enrapturing Gaze (models in base contact cannot use any LD value other than their own), Temptator (enemy model in base contact must pass a Ld test or attack whomever the daemon wishes) and Siren Song (nominated enemy unit must either charge the daemon or flee)

Great Unclean One, Greater Daemon of Nurgle
- Level 2 wizard, may be upgraded up to level 4
- Weapon skill 4, Attacks 4
- Poisoned attacks
- Can take 100 pts of Daemonic gifts, including Balesword (wounds automatically, each unsaved wound is multiplied to D6), Nurgling Infestation (creates new Nurgling bases) and Trappings of Nurgle (armour save and Regeneration)

Bloodthirster, Greater Daemon of Khorne
- Not frenzied(!)
- WS10, S6, T6, A7
- Can take 100 pts of Daemonic gifts, including Awesome Strength (S10), Dark Insanity (2D6+2 attacks) and Spellbreaker (Dispel Scroll-equivalent)

Daemon Prince
- The most customisable Lord-level character
- Can take 75 pts of Daemonic gifts, out of which a max of 50 pts can be gifts specific to the Greater Daemons of their patron god (if they have one)
- They also have their own list of daemonic gifts
- All, apart from Khornate ones, can be wizards up to level 2
- Wings are an optional gift, though base Movement has increased

Heroes
- Chariots are only available as a mount for Heralds (apart from Nurgle who only get the Palanquin)
- There are no Undivided Heralds

Herald of Nurgle
- Poisoned attacks
- May ride a Palanquin of Nurgle
- The only Herald with no chariot option
- Grants the Regeneration special rule to Plaguebearer units he joins

Herald of Khorne
- May ride a Juggernaut of Khorne or a chariot pulled by Juggernauts
- Grants the Hatred special rule to Bloodletter units he joins
- Not frenzied

Herald of Slaanesh
- May ride a Steed of Slaanesh or a chariot pulled by Mounts of Slaanesh
- Grants the Always Strikes First special rule to Daemonette units he/she/it joins

Herald of Tzeentch
- May ride a Disk of Tzeentch or a chariot pulled by Screamers
- Grants Horror units he joins a 4+ aura save instead of the normal 5+ aura save

Mounts
- Juggernauts, Steeds of Slaanesh, Disks of Tzeentch and Palanquins of Nurgle all have *1* wound only, so count as cavalry mounts and cannot be killed separately.
- Statwise they also get weaker (Disks have one S3 attack, for example)
- Steeds of Slaanesh are essentially equivalent to the mounts of Mounted Daemonettes, NOT the Steeds that can be ridden by Chaos Mortal characters

Core
- Units do not get the Leadership boost they got in the Daemonic Legion list. Indeed, lesser Daemons are all Leadership 7 (apart from Furies)
- There is one unit type per god (plus Furies)

Bloodletters of Khorne
- New plastic models
- Start with MR1 and Killing Blow. Can get Hatred from a Herald of Khorne
- NOT Frenzied
- Movement 5
- Full command options

Daemonettes of Slaanesh
- New plastic models
- Worse, but cheaper and faster
- Movement 6, WS5, Strength 3
- Gain Armour Piercing
- Full command options

Plaguebearers of Nurgle
- New metal command models, possibly a plastic set at some later date
- Poisoned attacks. Can get Regeneration from a Herald of Nurgle.
- WS3, Strength 4, Toughness 4
- No more Cloud of Flies
- Full command options

Horrors of Tzeentch
- New metal command models, possibly a plastic set at some later date
- Do not cast Bound spells, instead the unit counts as a wizard with magic levels depending on the number of Horrors in the unit (1-5: lvl 0, 6-15: lvl 1, 16-25: lvl 2, etc).
- If the Horror unit miscasts, it takes D6 wounds
- Spells are set depending on the unit's level (lvl 1: spell #1 Flickering Fire of Tzeentch, lvl 2: spells #1+4, lvl 3: spells #1+4+5, lvl 4: spells #1+4+5+6)
- Improved WS, but lower Ld
- All attacks are flaming
- Noticeably cheaper
- Full command options

Chaos Furies
- Do not count towards minimum number of Core
- Strength 3, Leadership 2

Special
- There is one unit type per god

Nurglings
- Almost certainly no longer 0-1
- Scouts(!)
- Stat decrease (most stats are 3s, apart from M and Ld)
- Poisoned attacks replacing Cloud of Flies
- Unit size 3-12

Flesh Hounds of Khorne
- New metal models
- Not frenzied
- Higher Movement, Strength, Toughness, Wounds and Attacks
- Lower Leadership
- More than twice as expensive as before

Screamers of Tzeentch
- Strength3, T3, 1 wound
- Strength of slashing attacks up to 5, may make slashing attacks to all units they move over, not just one
- Slightly cheaper

Seekers of Slaanesh
- Equivalent to Mounted Daemonettes (i.e. the ones on cavalry bases), NOT Pleasureseekers (the daemonettes on Steeds of Slaanesh from the Storm of Chaos list)
- Full command options
- Cheaper (a unit with full command is slightly *cheaper* than an old unit with no command)

Rare
- There is one unit type per god

Bloodcrushers of Khorne (Bloodletters riding Juggernauts)
- New metal models
- Improved armour save (Juggers add +3 to the rider's armour save)
- Unit size 1-8?
- Rider has 2 wounds, the Jugger only counts as a cavalry mount.
- Rider has 1 more Strength and 1 more Attack than a regular Bloodletter
- Full command options

Beasts of Nurgle
- New metal models
- The models don't have riders
- Beasts have D6+2 poisoned attacks
- Regeneration and Slime Trail (opponents get no CR bonus for attacking them in the side or rear)
- 100 pts per model
- Unit size 1+

Fiends of Slaanesh
- New models
- Models go on 40 mm square bases
- Almost identical to old Pleasureseekers
- Special rule that forces enemy units breaking from combat with them roll an additional D6 for distance and discard the highest
- Only unit with Weapon Skill 4(!)
- Unit size 1+

Flamers of Tzeentch
- A separate unit, not longer hangers-on for a unit of Horrors
- Unit size 3-6
- Flame shooting is D6 S4 shots per Flamer, 18" range
- Close combat attacks go up in Strength and are flaming
- Option for champion

Special characters
- Note that the special characters are the same in both the 40K and the Fantasy lists, though naturally their stats and exact abilities may differ somewhat.
- Original rumour that there were 12 special characters appears to have been wrong. Possibly the source meant "a dozen", meaning "a whole lot" rather than "exactly twelve".
- Another reason for the high number of special characters is probably to get more variation into god-specific lists, who would otherwise look pretty much identical

Fateweaver, the Oracle of Tzeentch (Greater Daemon of Tzeentch)
- Model has two heads
- Knows all Tzeentch spells and each head also knows 4 spells from any of the lores (in the rulebook?)
- Some sort of re-roll ability (???)

Kugath, the Plaguefather (Greater Daemon of Nurgle)
- Has two special rules: Blessing of Pus and Nurgling Infestation

Skarbrand, the Exiled One (Greater Daemon of Chaos Undivided)
- Does not fly
- Otherwise very similar to a Bloodthirster statwise but without any Khornate gifts. Possibly he was exiled by Khorne and had his wings cut off.
- 40K version has a special rule called Burning Hatred

Tallyman Epidemius (Herald of Nurgle)
- Mounted on a Palanquin of Nurgle
- Poisoned attacks
- Gives a bonus to other Nurgle units depending on how many enemies he kills (sort of similar to Skrag, the Ogre special character)

The Masque (Herald of Slaanesh)
- Kicked out of Slaanesh's entourage for being able to out-dance his (her? its?) god
- Has a special rule in 40K called the Eternal Dance, which lets you move enemy units
- 3 human arms and a big claw arm. Wields a staff with a mask at either end and changes it's personality depending on who it chooses to be. See below for pictures

Skulltaker (Herald of Khorne)
- Character-killer
- See below for pictures
- Must challenge if able to
- Has deadlier form of Killing Blow (on a 5+ to wound in challenges and works regardless of Unit Strength of the victim)

The Bluescribes (Herald of Tzeentch)
- Two Horrors riding a Disk of Tzeentch, on a mission to recover some lost artefact

The Changeling (Horror champion)
- Formless Horror: At the start of close combat, the Changeling may select any enemy model in base to base contact and swap WS/S/T/I/A with this model (essentially a built-in van Horstman's Speculum)
- NOT an upgrade each and every Horror unit can take. As with any other Special character you can take ONE of it.

Karanak, Hound of Vengeance (Flesh Hound champion)
- Model has multple heads

Stuff removed from the list
- Exalted Daemons (use as Daemon Prince)
- Pleasureseekers of Slaanesh (use as Fiends or Seekers, possibly counting each model as two, or as Heralds)
- Plagueriders of Nurgle (use as Beasts of Nurgle, or as Heralds riding Palanquins)
- Changebringers of Tzeentch (use as Screamers, Heralds riding Disks or as unit fillers in Horror units)
- Daemon chariots as independent units (can now only be taken as mounts for Heralds)

Dark Elf Army book rumours

Models
No plastic character set!
Witch Elves, Executioners, Shades and Black Guard get repackaged to sets of 5 metal models. No new models for them at the time being.

New stuff:
- Dreadlord (old Highborn) on foot and cold one (two different blisters)
- Supreme Sorceress (old High Sorceress) on foot and cold one (two different blisters)
- Corsairs, set of 10 plastic models
- Cold One Knights, set of 5 plastic models
- Hydra (metal box, new beast and new handlers)

- Spearhead box, 22 models (both plastic sets plus 7 extra) plus army book

Morathi and Shadow blademay get repackaged, or they might get new models.

Army special rules and army composition
- Dark Elves are NOT getting Always Strike First rule as an army-wide rule (that is High Elves)
- All Dark Elves (but not mounts or monsters) gain +1 Attack in the turn they charge
- All Dark Elves (including mounts if not otherwise specified, as per the new Hatred rule) Hate all enemies
- Against High Elves, Dark Elves may re-roll failed to-hit rolls (for Hatred) in all rounds of combat, not just the first
- Dark Elves are probably not gaining the same army composition restrictions as High Elves (1 less Core, 2 more Special and Rare) and follow the same restrictions as before

Dark Magic
- Sorceresses gain some kind of sacreficial ability to gain extra Power dice

#? - unknown name: Some kind of Frenzy-like effect

Lords
Old names in parentheses

Dreadlord (Highborn)
- two new metal models, foot and mounted on Cold One

Supreme Sorceress (High Sorceress)
- two new metal models, foot and mounted on Cold One

Heroes

Noble

Sorceress

Assassin

Warriors
- cheaper?

Crossbowmen
- may fire a single bolt at S4 if not moving?

Dark Riders
- cheaper
- not likely to get a new set of plastic models anytime soon

Corsairs
- new set of plastic models!
- unit finally gets some options again. They may be armed with two hand weapons, shields or repeater handbows (whatever they do)

Special

Executioners
- lose Killing Blow, gain some other unspecified ability

Black Guard
- no longer Rare
- increase in WS?
- almost certainly not 0-1

Witch Elves
- Always Strike First (instead of or in addition to Frenzy?)

Chariots
- no longer 1-2 per Special choice

Shades
- new models or old ones repackaged

Cold One Knights
- new set of 5 plastic models
- cold ones back up to 2 attacks each?
- re-introduction of a magic banner that negates Stupidity?

Harpies
- cheaper
- almost certainly not 0-1

Rare

Reaper Bolt Throwers
- still 1-2 per Rare

Hydra
- new (metal) model
- gains Regeneration

Cauldron of Blood
- mount option for Witch Elf characters?

Some kind of new monster???

Special characters
- probably something like six different ones, the list below is more or less speculation

Malekith

Morathi
- new model or old one repackaged

Lohir Fellheart
- gets a mini, unknown what sort of character he is

Shadowblade
- new model or old one repackaged

Malus Darkblade?

Hag Queen Hellebron???

It is really too early to accurately predict the order as it depends on so many variables, i.e. design, sculpting, casting, painting, rules/army book writing, playtesting, market forces etc.

IF I had to guess I would look at it being similar to this (this IS JUST A GUESS!)

HE - Oct/Nov 07
VC - Mar/Apr 08
DE - Jul/Aug 08
Chaos - Q4 08
Skaven - Q1 09
CD - 09

Although I wouldn't be surprised to see DE & Chaos trade places.

I am reliably told that the one book for WFB & W40k Daemons is inaccurate, it was a format that was considered, but it was decided it would require too much compromise and be ultimately too clumsy to pull off. I expect WFB & W40k Daemons to be released at the same time, but with seperate Army Book & Codex resapectively.

I am now certain that DE & Chaos will switch places on that list though.
And this one belongs to harry

Most of this isn't completely new, but I just felt like adding all these fantasy related pictures from the official Baltimore GD Coverage to the Rumour Roundup.

Not sure what the Ogre sized FW stuff is supposed to be...

*edit*
It seems the Ogres are for 40k (Renegade Ogryn Berserker for/from Imperial Armour 5: The siege of Vraks)...nevertheless they'd probably look cool in a Chaos Dwarf/Chaos or Skaven army. Thanks to reds8n for pointing that out.
Watchman #2 Rumour compilation

In case you haven't had a chance to read the new issue of the Watchman:

Quote WORD ON THE STREET
FROM THE WATCHMAN

WHAT NEW STUFF IS OUT BEFORE THE NEXT WATCHMAN?

APRIL
We get the new, all plastic, army boxes for both Orcs and Goblins and the Dwarf Army this month. An absolute stack of plastic for your money.
But I don’t expect to see the Empire box until June.

MAY
We get the magnificent Black Orc plastics, Black Orc Big Boss, Gorbad, the Trolls and the Giant cave squig.

JUNE
Empire Army Box and a Battalion Box
New metal Dwarf Lords and the plastic Miners.
All the Terrain including Hills, Trees, walls/fences and the Buildings.
(including the big ‘Village’ and the ‘Fortified manor’ sets).

JULY
The Mighty Empires Box set. (available to pre-order from 9th June.)
Various Empire releases. (Flaggellants/Wizards/Helblaster)
Also a reinforcement Battalion splash release.

WHATS NEXT FOR WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLE

I still don’t have a date for you but I am confident we will see them this side of Christmas. If I had to bet pie on it I would say we will see the first releases in November with the main release in December (just in time for Christmas shopping). Elves and Christmas just seem to go hand in hand, don’t they?.

I still think that the Undead will be next after the High Elves but this will clearly be next year. I am thinking 6 months after the High Elves. I am also still confident that Dark Elves will be after that (they are approximately 12 months away).

SET IN STONE FOR THE DWARVES

For anyone who has not followed the sad saga of the plastic dwarf Lord kit I promised you last time, here is the deal. The short version of events is that the mould was dropped and broken. So, as an alternative, those kind fellows at Games Workshop made us some beautiful new metal dwarf Lords instead. These will appear very soon.

There will be a Lord (with 2 handed axe), A lord, on an oath stone, (leaning on Hammer and shield) and a Battle Standard Bearer. Without trying to describe each in detail, they are sculpted to ‘match’ the new Dwarf plastics. And they really are very nice.

I also understand that the intention is still to re-make the Plastic mould again at some point in the future so it’s good news all around in the end.

On top of these beauties, Dwarf collectors also get a real treat. As if the “Bugman’s Bar only” Josef Bugman wasn’t enough to grace our display cabinets, for the 30th Birthday Bash the Dwarves get another fantastic mini. As many of you will have heard by now this will be a mini of The White Dwarf carried on a shield, with Gotrek & Bugman as his shield bearers.

The Plastic Flame Cannon is on the way, but don’t hold you breath for plastic Slayers. I have still been unable to get any conformation of this rumour so I suspect they are not going to appear anytime soon…if indeed they were ever considered.

WAAAAAGHTS NEXT FOR ORCS AND GOBLINS

For those of you who have an unnatural fear of giant spiders, the Forest Goblin Chief on a gigantic spider is on its way. It is done so I am not entirely sure why it has not been seen along with the Giant Cave Squig.
I have heard nothing more of Boar Boyz so I suspect I got dodgy info on this one. Sorry. That’s rumours for you! (Having said that I could be wrong now, they could still be on the way. That’s rumours for you!)

However, there is Azhag and the most incredible Wyvern. They are both sculpted by Alex Hedstrom. Hats off. This must be the most realistic, (believable), ‘fantasy monster’ mini I have ever seen. I love it. I can’t wait to get one!
I am sure it will be released at some point. I think they are just trying to find a good slot for it but also they are trying to work out how to promote it, as the whole thing is so huge that it couldn't be cast in metal (because it would weigh too much). Either they wouldn't be able to make profit on it or we would have to pay a fortune for it, so the Wyvern will probably have to be cast in Resin, although not necessarily made by Forgeworld. Instead it will made by a Games Workshop in-house resin manufacturing team, “GW Resins”, who from what I can gather happen to be the same team that casts FW products! Don’t ask me! I just write what I hear!

On a side note, I have heard that GW is considering producing more resin miniatures in the future. This would apparently only be used for character models and rare units - essentially those models you're only likely to buy one of. The decision to produce resin models apparently stems from the recognition that plastic cannot capture the same level of detail as metal or resin, and the price of metal is rising all the time. I don’t know how much truth there is in this but when you see the stuff Forge World produces…why wouldn’t they consider it?

FOR SIGMAR!

Most of the minis mentioned the last time have made an appearance on the net.
The Flagellants, Battle Wizards and Hellblaster/Helstorm rocket kit have all been seen and will all be available this side of the summer campaign in the July releases. Having seen some of this stuff put together I have to say these kits are very impressive. You are not going to believe how good these wizards look put together or the variety you can achieve off the sprues.
There will also be a splash release of Empire ‘re-enforcements’ which will have all of the above included with more state troops which looks like a great way to buy all of the new stuff at a bargain price. It looks like a saving of over £30 on stuff I would be buying anyway. I will certainly be investing in one of these.

I have still been unable to get conformation of new Empire Knights so I suspect they may not be happening. I think the reason they weren't done is probably that there wasn't enough resources to do them, either in designer time or tooling time. Just too many other things happening at the same time and as a result the knights were prioritised out. Maybe sometime in the future but don’t hold your breath. Sorry I don’t have better news on this.
(I was hoping for something reminiscent of David Gallagher’s concept work).
Having said this I don’t doubt Hastings original rumour of a new knights sprue. So their may still be something we haven’t seen yet for the knights.
One thing I have heard about knights is a rumour that at the 30th birthday bash there will be an Empire Knight, along similar lines to the rumoured Necron but in Gold (plated?) plastic I don’t know! Its just what I heard.

Something I can confirm is that there will be three or four new Empire characters on foot. I don’t have a lot of details but I have heard about two ‘direct order only’ Heroes one with a sword over his shoulder and one with a two handed mace. The mace is just huge. It is dwarfed only by the size of the moustache! There is also a Battle Standard Bearer with the Griffon Standard.

However the best Empire news of all is that the warrior priest blessing the handgun will be released as a direct only model at some point in the not so distant future.

HI ELVES

I have heard that Martin Footit has done ‘most’ of the High Elf minis. (He was the guy who did those fantastic High Elf heroes a while back) so I am pretty excited to see what’s coming.
Obviously there will have been contributions from other sculptors like a couple of characters from Steve Saleh and the chariot from Dave Thomas I mentioned last time.
One rumor that has surfaced recently on Warseer is that Alith Anar, the Shadow King will be in the book I will also tell you that I have heard that Gary Morley has done a rather nice sculpt for Alith Anar (didn’t want to say last time as it gave away his inclusion in the book, but as that is out there now….)
Drakes have also been rumoured. I have heard that these were sculpted by Alex Hedstrom. Having seen Azhag’s new Wyvern which I also believe to have been sculpted by him, I don’t mind telling you that I am looking forward to seeing more dragon type things from him. I think these will appear as a mount for a hero. Rather than as a unit.

Here is one description I have had of the new High Elf minis:

“The spear elves have basically the same style armour as the lion hero released last year, and compared to the current ones are just more 'elfy'. The spears themselves are thinner, and everything else seems more delicate and intricate than before. Compare the old Empire minis to the new ones. That is kind of detail increase we’ll see with the new plastics.”

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, however, so here you go.

INSERT HE SPRUE PIC HERE

You have got to be happy with that!
That has got to be the best command sprue so far.

The book is still not finalised and if my November date is correct this is still outside of a six month window so I will say nothing more.
Well, when I say nothing….
The odd snippet never did any harm!

If what I am hearing is correct, I will be as happy as this cat.

INSERT IMAGE OF HAPPY CAT

In fact I am so happy I wrote a little song. (In the hope we actually get the new book this side of Christmas!)

On the first day of Christmas Adam Troke gave to me, An Elf Prince, intrigue free!

On the second day of Christmas Adam Troke gave to me,
Two ranks of archers and an Elf Prince, intrigue free!

On the third day of Christmas Adam Troke gave to me three dangerous Dragons, two Ranks of archers and an Elf Prince, intrigue free!

On the forth day of Christmas Adam Troke gave to me four Lords of legend,
Three dangerous Dragons, two ranks of archers and an Elf Prince, intrigue free!

On the fifth day of Christmas Adam Troke gave to me five Gold Heroes,
Four lords of legend, three dangerous Dragons, two ranks of archers and an Elf Prince, intrigue free!

I might write a few more verses next time. (12 verses was just toooo many snippets).

I FEEL LIKE DEATH

I mentioned last time that John Blanche was doing the concept art for the new Undead. I think Games Workshop is keen to produce its own vision of the Undead rather than something more generic so that Games Workshop’s Undead are unlike anyone else’s Undead. I think this is something they will look to achieve increasingly in the future with other armies, which may also explain some of the change in ‘flavour’ in the recent Empire releases.
As a result we can expect a more “constructed” look, artificial beings more than the typical zombies’ held together with bits of wood, metal and bone.

On this theme the whole “Golem” (Ogre sized, Undead constructs) rumour just refuses to die (that’s Undead for you!). I still keep hearing about this unit even though I asked Gav about it myself and he told me it was not happening. I think what may be happening is rumours from Warseer are just being repeated. Having said that, Golems did make it into the Liber Necris, which is the Undead’s answer of the Liber Chaotica by The Black Library. So make of that what you will. Honestly I have no idea!

Some people on the forums seem to be under the impression that bloodlines are going to be scrapped in the new book. I am not sure this is correct. Last time I said:

“Gav Thorpe has been quoted as saying that he thinks the bloodlines are too restrictive and that players should be able to have more individual vampires, not limited by the bloodlines.”

I get the impression bloodlines will still be there and have an effect on your list but their importance will be toned down a little. I have heard that vampires will be able to pick from a selection of vampire abilities but will not be restricted by their bloodline.

Most of the mini’s; I told you about last time (the zombies, the Ghouls and Skeleton Variants (including plastic Grave Guard), are now finished.
I suggested we would be getting a number of new vampires. So far I have heard about acouple of Necrachs and a mounted Lahmian but the two most interesting Vampire minis I have heard about so far are a female Blood Dragon (Ohhh. Kate Beckinsale sir? Suits you sir. Will sir be wanting a mini to go with that? Your damn tooting sir will) and a really impressive vampire Lord transforming into a bat that sounds cool.
I have heard about both plastic and metal Necromancers. I have said before that I do not anticipate a plastic Vampire kit but a selection of metal vampires however I think we will be getting a Plastic kit for Foot & Mounted Necromancers. (with multiple heads arms much like the Empire mage sprue). But I also think we will get some Metal Necromancers just as we have for the Empire in addition to the plastic kit.

And that’s it for minis cough plague cough cart cough. Excuse me. Until next time.

DARK ELVES

It is my understanding that miniatures are now being sculpted for the Dark Elves so that puts them around twelve months away (or slightly less), so soon after Christmas next year unless there are any hic ups.

SOMETHING FOR ‘RAT FANS’

I promised a little something for Skaven fans last time so here is a scrap. Both plastic clan rats and I think also Stormvermin are done.
They are smaller and without the BIG hands.

The miniature department has a set of ‘scale masters’ (an unseen line of miniatures) which must be adhered to by the sculptors (Too big or too small and they won’t get done). These were reworked at the time the Wood Elves were done because of the variation in scale (even within some armies) and because of ‘scale creep’ in the minis generally. So just like the new Night Goblins are considerably smaller than the old ones but now in scale with the rest of the Warhammer world so are the new Skaven.

Me…I like my big, old, cartoony ones with massive hands but I am ready to be blown away by the new ones.

FOR THE GLORY OF THE GODS

I have heard about new Plastic for Chaos. I have heard things like new Chaos Marauders, new Chaos Warriors, new Chaos Knights, and new Chaos Chariots.
I have heard the new warriors will be more dynamic and pose-able and with more varied weapon options but nothing about the rumored God specific sprues mentioned when the current warriors came out.
I have heard ‘sooner rather than later’.
I have been thinking Chaos might be going to get the Battalion box.
I am thinking within the next twelve months.

However, there have been a number of rumours about Chaos Knights on Warseer and whilst they are coming they are not coming as soon as some people imagine. Whilst resins are completed I don’t think they have been made into plastics yet and they are definitely not going to appear this side of Games Day for the summer campaign as has been suggested.
However I have heard a rumour about a Chaos Character or two that might. If I remember right...one is mounted on a Barded chaos steed, the other on foot...so it sounds like the plastic character set for chaos to me so maybe it has nothing to do the Nemesis Campaign and is just one more element getting done to make the army box for Chaos.

I have also heard about Chaos Daemons being redone. I think Bloodletters and Daemonettes are already done. But all four main types will be done and I cant believe they wont fit nurglings on the sprue with the plague bearers. I also think Gary Morely may have done all the Tzeentch types. (Horrors, Screamers and Flamers)
They wanted to do the Daemons in plastic last time around but either time or technology did not allow. There is even talk of a demon Prince and a chaos spawn in plastic. I anticipate the first Plastic demons to be ready this side of Christmas as well. (Maybe some will even appear with the 40K Chaos release).
Whilst I mention 40K I have been told that the demon prince will be both a fantasy and a 40K release and that in addition to having all the extra bits to ‘40K up’ your Demon Prince he will have a round base which conveniently slots into the appropriate size base for Fantasy. Thus allowing your demon prince to be used in both systems. The spawn should also come with this base. This is a nice touch for Chaos players who enjoy both systems. It is not a new idea, however, I have some of these from when they tried it along time ago except mine are 20mm bases so potentially this could be the plan for all the demons making the entire demon force transferable. How cool would that be.

HERE BE DRAGONS

I have heard from a number of sources that Trish Morrison has sculpted the most amazing Dragon. However, so far there is only one made in resin. I have been unable to find out about its release. This is the best, most encouraging, answer I have heard so far :

“It's just such a beautiful and complex sculpt it would be very difficult if not impossible to cast it in plastic at the moment without losing a lot of the detail that makes it so good. So they are waiting for the technology to catch up ”

However, as the technology is already there, it might be more accurate to say waiting for them to catch up with the technology

Other Dragon news:
Azhag has now made an appearance.
The one wrapped around the rock which was too big and has supposedly been passed to Forge World has disappeared off the radar.
I expect to see some serious Dragon action released with the High Elves.

Well guess what i've just found on the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Wiki, in the greens section:

This suggests that it won't be released, which is a pity as it's a stunner!

Anyone know if this will see the light of day?

Sorry if people don't think this is worth a new thread for.

Watchman Rumour Article
Sylass  01/02/2007 - 06:15

(I have no idea if this differs from the article as it appeared in The Watchman as I have been unable to download it succesfully myself!)

THE WORD ON THE STREET FROM THE WATCHMAN

WHATS NEXT FOR WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLE?

Fantasy Buildings and Terrain (June 2007 Onwards?)
More releases (for Orcs, Dwarfs, Empire). (May, June, July 2007 in that order.)
Mighty Empires (July 2007)
High Elves (Was Summer 2007 Seems to be getting later and later!)
Summer Campaign (Summer 2007 obviously!)
Vampire Counts (Was Autumn 2007 Seems it may also be later).

After this everything is (even more!) subject to change but, I am confident Dark Elves will be the next army book to be updated. (In 2008 originally I understood it was to be early in 2008 but it is also getting pushed later.)
Having said that, the Chaos project may be ‘gathering momentum’ and ‘coming up on the outside’ with a ‘late challenge’ and it really would not surprise me if we saw something for chaos first.
There have been a number or rumours recently about Chaos. These are based on a number of sightings of figures leading people to the conclusion that Chaos is the next army after HE and VC. However I believe that the signals are being misinterpreted. I don’t think the book will be along for a little while. I think It is a big (and important) project that the Games Workshop developers want to get right. However, I don’t think Chaos fans will have to wait for the book until they get a little something new for their armies. (Cough, Knights, Cough, battalion box set, Cough, Cough.)

Predicting a release order for anything further ahead than this is so likely to change its not even worth it! But for what it is worth I have heard about work being done for, Skaven as well as Chaos and Dark Elves and for some other ‘more neglected’ armies. I’ll tell you more about this next time.

FANTASY BUILDINGS AND TERRAIN.

First to come are some new modular Gameboards. These will link together like a Jigsaw to make you as big a wargames table as you require!
Then there will be two new kits for woods. One makes a little wood and one makes a big wood! These are made with plastic trees.
Then come the buildings I have heard about four different ones so far there may be more (but I am not going to spoil all the surprises.) Available individually.
Some of these can be combined with a wall kit to make one big ‘fortified manor house type thing’ which will be available to buy as a kit.
Then there will be a really big terrain set, (like the complete Cities of Death kit).

WHAAAAAAGHT ELSE IS STILL TO COME FOR ORCS AND GOBLINS?

Well there are these.....

INSERT PHOTO’S OF BLORC SPRUES

I think these may have been done entirely on computer. No green stuff involved. (The world we live in. I remember when toy soldiers ……)
Obviously there is Gorbad., but also some new Boar Boys to go with him. (And possibly a new Boar chariot or at least the old one updated with the new boars)
New common Trolls. (As seen at Gamesday UK this year).
The Giant cave squig is done and the Gigantic spider. (but don’t get too excited about this one, its just the same as the spider riders spider, only bigger!)
I have heard conflicting rumours about problems with Azhag, (over scale), but it seems he is still set for release this summer. Azhags Wyvern is said to be very nice, poised for attack with on wing tip stuck in the ground for balance. Azhag is said to be Huge!
However, this would seem to be a different Wyvern to the ’masters series’ one with its tail wrapped around the rock described months ago by Hastings. I am not sure this one will make it into production. What I heard, right or wrong, is that it was too big for the plastic moulds and too heavy to be made in metal and as a result will be passed to Forgeworld to do in resin. (just as the Eldar Avatar was recently). But it is possible that some of the rumours about dragons and wyverns have got mixed up and this story is about a different dragon model entirely!

MEGA NEWS

In 40K you can buy an all plastic Mega Forces for some/most armies. (sorry don’t know much about 40K) This is comimg to Warhammer Fantasy Battles. From this summer you will be able to buy, all plastic Mega Warhammer armies. No Rulebook, no metal miniatures, no special Limited Edition miniatures. Just a huge box full of all the plastic for an army.
The first Mega Warhammer box will be for Orcs and be followed by Mega Warhammer deals for Empire and Dwarfs.

WHAT ELSE IS STILL TO BE SET IN STONE FOR DWARVES?

There is a much rumoured Plastic Dwarf Lord (and Battle Standard Bearer ?) set. The Lord obviously come with the option of shield and bearers and if there isn’t an oath stone on the sprue somewhere I’ll eat my horned helmet!
I have heard about new plastic Miners. This will be a full multi part kit not more of the Battle for Skull Pass chaps.
And I have even heard ‘grumbles’ about a plastic Flame cannon.
I know, I know, I’ll be having you believe next there will be plastic Dwarf slayers! (Well, I would if I could get this rumour confirmed from a second source!)

WHAT ELSE IS STILL TO COME…’FOR SIGMAR!’

There will be Karl Franz on a selection of different mounts (Deathclaw, Dragon and Pegasus). The Dragon is a Large plastic kit! Like the Giant it will come with lots of extras for customisation. (NOTE: Modelling options not parts to make it into a dragon for other races! E.g. Chaos or undead!)
There will NOT be a new Balthasar Gelt., Luther Huss Or even Volkmar,
However, I predict a new plastic Arch Lector/War Alter kit. (but this will not be for a little while.)
As has already been rumoured by Hastings there should be a new Plastic sprue for the Knightly Orders and contrary to everything I had heard before there now seem to be rumours of new plastic barded horses!
Januarys White Dwarf (WD325) seems to suggest some pieces from a new knightly orders/Knights of the empire sprue have been used in conversions (as part of a project in the back pages and also as part of the Modelling Generals article). Whilst these may be incorrect it suggests that at least one person at WD thinks the set exists! Also there are some incredible concept sketches from the talented hand of David Gallhager included in the fantastic ‘The Empire at war’ background book. (Which I recommend to all fans of the Empire or indeed any warhammer fans.) However I can get NO conformation that new Knights or knights horses are on their way so this remains to be seen.
However, I have heard rumours about both the two remaining infantry units not yet available in plastic being done. Flaggellants and Greatswords!
We will get both the Helstorm Rocket Launcher and a new plastic Helblaster Volley Gun. (Although, I had heard, the planned combined Helstorm/Helblaster plastic kit got scrapped because too many compromises to the designs of the machines were required to make them from the same kit.
There is also a rumour about a plastic steam tank that will not go away. However, I have heard about other ‘bigger things’ to come for Warhammer and I think the steam tank may be part of this, in the future. So watch this space.
When all this is done ‘the goal’ of the first complete plastic army for warhammer would be achieved except for a few characters…If they included another warrior priest on foot in my ‘predicted’ Arch Lector/War Alter kit that would only leave Engineers and Battle Wizards in metal. So the following ‘unconfirmed’ rumour, seen in this context, sounds possible.
From the ‘engineers school’, I have an unconfirmed rumour about an engineer model/kit/blister? Plastic/metal??? that comes with two separate engineers and all the different weapon options. If metal it may even utilize the same engineers arm sprue that was part of the Engineer on mechanical steed kit.
I have saved the best for last. I have heard from a number of sources about new set of Four different plastic Battle wizards!

HI ELVES

Let me say up front. I have decided not to discuss the contents of the High Elf army book. If for no other reason than its not finished yet! It still only exists as a partially completed document and will not even exist as a ‘draft’ PDF document for at least a month. I just don’t think it is fair to start to pull something to pieces before its even been put together. (And I have decided, even though he never phones and he never writes, that I like Adam Troke)
Anyway it will give me something to write about next issue! (Only joking, Adam. Well the odd little ‘snippet’ never did any harm.)

There will be Plastic kits for characters mounted and foot. (One for Princes and Commanders and another for Mages).
In addition there will be a plastic Dragon kit. (75Hastings69 posted this on warseer months ago) This is the one flying horizontally like the old Dragon Masters dragon (for those who remember that far back). It will come with various rider options to represent different character options who can ride it.
I have heard about a High Elf riding an eagle but I have no idea whether this is a character model or suggests a change to the current entry for Eagles in the list!
Martin Footit is the name I have heard in connection with new plastic troops and Steve Saleh has made a couple of characters. Steve Saleh did lots of stuff for the Wood Elves and Martin Footit is the guy who did those fantastic High Elf Heroes and Mages a little while back (for the Lustria campaign) so if those minis are anything to go by, I am pretty excited the new stuff.
I have heard about plastic box sets for spearmen. Not with other options as with recent Empire and Dwarf core troops. However, I have heard that you will be able to customise these to represent different provinces. (using add on bits for the helms and spears , etc.)
New High Elf cavalry plastics. The horses would seem to be the wood elf horses with possibly optional barding. I have heard nothing about the riders.
I have heard about from a couple of sources about new character models for Lothern Sea guard including a Sea guard Captain/Commander with a Sea hawk on his wrist and a standard bearer with a carved wooden leg. The art work for the seaguard is a lot more ‘gritty’ than the old look. (More ‘sea dog’ than Sea Elf!) I don’t know if these are part of a bigger ‘redo’ of the Sea Guard models or not.

There has been just one or two hints, rumours, confirmations (and a few disagreements!) about a ‘Lion chariot’ on Warseer.
So here are some facts:
There will be a new plastic High Elf Chariot kit. (Yes, Plastic!)
This has been sculpted by Dave Thomas. (Dave Thomas is the man responsible for Marneus Calgar, the Command Squad for Space Marines and Vostorians in 40K, various Lord of the Rings minis and, more recently, and the remarkable new Kurt Helborg.)
Much as the Kurt Helborg was an update of the older mini rather than a ‘new’
mini, the same could be said of this chariot. It has some similarity in design to the current chariot, its a development. (Clearly from the same race, etc.) so they should sit OK next to each other nicely on the table. It is a true multi-part kit with lots of bits and bobs to customise your chariot and it comes with the option of Lion ‘steeds’.

I had suggested on Warseer that this ‘Lion Chariot’ would cause fear this was based on the fact that I felt a lion would scare the crap out of me. (Especially if one could bring down a cold one by the throat, but that’s another story.)
However, it is now my understanding that it will NOT cause fear and so as far as I am aware there will be no new fear causing unit/model in the High Elf list.
I make a point of this only to clear up my own earlier, incorrect, assumption. (This could still change. It may be yet be decided that lions should cause fear (and its not just me being a girl.) Then again, maybe, if you live in a world of Dragons and Trolls, Lions would not be such a fearsome creature!)

SUMMER CAMPAIGN (MY NEMESIS)

I have heard so many conflicting things, and put forward so many different ideas on Warseer and changed my mind on this so many times…..
…..but out of all of this here is everything I know for sure about this summers campaign.
1) There will be a campaign
2) It will be in the summer.

Joking aside January’s White Dwarf will make it clear that this summers campaign will be for Warhammer Fantasy Battle and will be called ‘The Nemisis War’ or the ‘The Nemesis Crown campaign’. (These are used interchangeably).
It will revolve around the hunt to recover the mysterious Nemesis crown. ‘an ancient Dwarf magical artifact of terrifying power’ that has ‘lain hidden from the eyes of mortals for millennia’. It seems this crown was made by Alaric the Mad, the Dwarf who made the Runefangs for the Empire and then disappeared. Apparently it has ‘resurfaced’ (the Crown not the Dwarf!) somewhere in the old world millennia later.
I have heard each army will get a new special character and these will be the main protagonists in the quest to snatch the crown for their race. Other than the releases already mentioned I am not sure if there will be any additional releases for other races.
More about the Nemesis War next time!

I FEEL LIKE DEATH

I have heard about some very exciting developments for the undead.
John Blanche took on the Concept artwork for the Vampire Counts as a ‘personel project’ to help provide a more unified feel. (Oh my goodness, I am as nervous about what the ‘feel’ will be as I am excited by this news!) I am imagining a pretty different (more ‘Games Workshop’ look). I think it puts rumours of a more ‘constructed’ look for zombies into perspective.
As a result the entire figures range will be re-vamped (teehee, gets me every time) with new minis for almost everything.
Brian Nelson has made new skeleton ‘dollies’ and Aly Morrison and Mike Anderson are producing various skeleton derived troops based on these. I have heard about three or four different unit options. (I assume, not only will this give us skeletons and armoured skeletons but some new Grave guard as well. (Possibly with different weapons options. Cough, Halberds Cough). (Brian and Aly need no introduction. Mike is a winner of Golden Demons and having been sculpting for fanatic he has, recently, done the impressive new Skarsnik model and been involved in all the new Empire plastics (with Brian, Aly and Steve Saleh) and is the man who did those fantastic new Warrior Priests. After their, hugely successful, collaboration on the Empire plastic troops I am very excited to see what they do working together on Skellies. I think if the Empire troops are anything to go by we can look forward to some much more dynamic, detailed and characterful skeletons than the current set.
Seb Perbett I think is doing new Ghouls. (He is known for winning Golden Demon Statues and Various 40K stuff Vostorians? Tau? I think? Sorry Seb. Don’t do 40K)
Trish Morrison (On monsters. No surprises there) is doing new plastic ‘night creatures set’ I have heard specifically about Dire wolves but I assume new bats. Normal, vampire bat swarms and giant fell bats but have no details. I don’t even know that these troop choices will make it into the new book.)
In terms of characters, Gav Thorpe has been quoted as saying that he thinks the bloodlines are too restrictive and that players should be able to have a more individual vampires, not limited by the bloodlines. If the book allows for more individual vampires to be created I do not anticipate a character plastic kit, as we have seen for other races, for vampires but rather a large selection of vampire models much like we have seen recently with the goblin characters so that players can find one that most closely resembles their image of a vampire.
Having said this I would not rule out a plastic kit for the Necromancers who will have a more significant role to play in the new undead army.
Also I have heard that Wraiths return as a unit to the list and there will also be some ‘unexpected additions’ and the return of some old, old favourites.

MIGHTY EMPIRES

Mighty Empires is being re-released. This will not be as a stand alone game board game (as it was in the past) but more as a campaign supplement for linking your Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
It will come with plastic tiles which will allow you to build a plastic 3D world (or reproduce a part of the ‘Old World’) with little mountains, rivers and forests and coastlines in which to base your games.
There will be army specific sets of ‘army banners’ (counters to represent your armies) as well as the villages, cities, castles, etc. used in the game.
However, I really hope this system is just be part of a larger package to support your warhammer games. I was told that siege would be the first thing released in support of warhammer. I was also told that there would be support for playing warhammer in different ways…developments to the ‘special features’ system in the rule book, big battles, big boats, etc. I have heard little about these recently.
I hope what they might have done is made the decision that there was not enough material to take each of these ideas and make separate supplements but instead they have rolled some of them into one. In effect they could have done a re-write of the Generals Compendium. Including its best bits and a whole lot more. It was a fantastic book, just chock full of great ideas to expand the ways in which to enjoy warhammer. But completely ‘unofficial’!
Jeremy Vetock, who was one of the co-writers of that book, and Chad Mierzwa, one of the other members of the, very talented, hobby team involved in that project, are now based in the UK studio. Jeremy Vetock is Hobby team manager.(title?)
I hope that the UK studio have done an ‘official’ version of this. A warhammer extension/supplement that could include: Campaign system based on the old Mighy Empires. (complete with plastic tile system.) Map based campaigns (complete with map), Scenario generators, maybe include Nigel Stilmans excellent ‘The night before battle’ rules article?, Rules for big battles, multiplayer battles rules for using contingents from different armies, lots of new scenarios, lots of new ‘special features’ developing the stuff in the rule book, Etc, Etc….All in one Big Box! Oooohh! Sir! Pleeeease let it be so.
Now please bear in mind that I am really going ‘out on a limb’ here and this ‘theory’ is based on ‘very little’ (read ‘No’) actual facts. For all I know it is just the campaign system. And that’s it. The rest of it could all be planned for separate supplements. But you know me. I do like to get excited about what they might do!
I am now fairly sure that Siege rules and rules for using big boats (like ‘Warhammer Ahoy” from Gamesday or the rules in the generals compendium) Will not be part of this supplement. I think they must be coming later or I would have heard more about it by now!.

Also prepare to see new Plastic "Mega Force" style WFB sets. The first of which will be O&G before Summer it will be total plastic box and cost 100GBP. After that we can expect Empire & Dwarves Mega Warhammer boxes, when the rest of the plastic projects for BOTH of those armies are finished (and yes I do know what they are).

Thanks to FarseerUshanti for the following info about the next WHFB campaign:

Quote Got my White Dwarf today and it has a two page announcement regarding the next warhammer fantasy campaign. It says "Who will claim the Nemesis Crown?" and then says global campaign commences July 2007.

On the opposite page their is a picture of a rune of some sort etched in stone. It is a sort of crown looking shape with an infinity symbol below it.
Discussion here (What's the Nemesis crown?) and here (speculations about the campaign itself).
Plastic Buildings
Avian  03/10/2006 - 08:52
These have been rumoured to be in the making for some time now.

Originally Posted by Harry View Post

He then sends these 'downstairs' to have moulds made of them.
Once he has these moulds he then casts what he needs ...himself..in resin. (so they have a limited life and are just for his use.) For any of you who have been to warhammer world this is how many of the buildings on the tables there have come into being.
This is why they have Dave Andrews style and level of detail and why some parts appear more than once in different buildings.
This is also why some of the buildings appear to be half moulds and half finished 'by hand'.

These buildings are, as a result one off sculpts....done for photos etc.
They will not be released as games workshop products. (As stated by Jedi and Hastings above.)
(Although presumably with the computer kit they have now they could scan them to produce moulds for plastic sprues. So who knows....but I suspect they will remain one off pieces)

However......
Colin Grayson...has also been working on fantasy houses...to be produced in Plastic Kits.
These are the ones I described months ago. The two sided ones. (I won't describe them again here)
He produced a number of pieces....However...I'm not sure whether it was Colin or 'the powers that be' that were not happy with the finished results...(I think they looked a bit 'clean' or the tile idea did not work so well as it did for the 40k buildings maybe but they just didn't look right)...whatever the reason a stack of work got shelved and Colin started again. (Hence they disappeared off the radar.)

It is now my understanding that he has redone these buildings and 'nailed it' and he (and everyone else!) is VERY happy with the final results. So Given the standards these guys set themselves I am expecting these to be some serious 'eye candy' for the center of your gaming tables. (although I have no idea what buildings these will represent.)

It is also my understanding that we will see these sooner rather than later. (*I'm thinking 6-12 Months.)....and that they will be just part of a series of scenery releases for Warhammer fantasy battles (including Hills and Woods/trees as well as buildings)

It is my understanding that these buildings will not have the modular/interchangableness that the city of death buildings had but will be more individual, stand alone buildings...although the serious modeller will still be able to combine them to make unique buildings.

I think Hastings maybe quoting me when he says some of these buildings have been 'signed off'
What I was refering to is..... I don't think it has been ruled out that some of the best/most succesful of the earlier work (the building tiles previously described) might also be released...at some point...maybe!

Whether the original designs will ever surface I dont know, perhaps, but for the initial release a bit more specific warhammer wackiness was requested.

High Elf army book rumours
Avian  22/08/2006 - 15:13
Very temporary, as the book seems to be out early 2008 sometime.

Expected models include a new cavalry set, with options for all three types of elven cav as well as the new plastic Dragon. The Dragon is lying horizontal on the base, in a similar style to the old Citadel Dragon Master model. (Source: 75hastings69)

Expect cheaper and/or better infantry, more expensive cavalry, the removal (or at least near removal) of 0-1 selections and fewer things that are 1-2 per Special or Rare - judging by the recent army books...

New models in the making
Sylass  24/06/2006 - 14:26
New models in the making

Plastic Dragon! (provided by 75hastings69)
Rumoured to be different from the current, skinny dragons, the new plastic dragon will be similar to the new plastic Giant in that it will be BIG and contain parts to make different types of dragons (High Elf Dragons, Chaos Dragons, etc.) included in the kit.

Plastc Character sets
Apparently, the plastic Orc character set mentioned above will just be the start and eventually there will be a box for every army with enough bitz to make various types of characters, along with options for mounts, Battle standard bearers etc.
First up is a set for the Orcs and then a Dwarf set.

Masters sets (provided by 75hastings69)
GW are to introduce a new "masters" set of minis that are aimed at the more experienced modeller. The first release for this new set will be seen with Orcs and Goblins and will be Azhag the Slaughterer on Wyvern.

In addition the spynetwork mentioned:
  • BloodBowl Chaos Team (new sculpts with blisters for each chaos god)
  • BloodBowl Dwarf Team (again new sculpts)
  • Mordheim Pirate Captain

Special rules

Undead
- Applies to all units, including those not technically dead (probably to keep things simple).
- Ward saves (possibly also regeneration saves) may be taken against wounds suffered from crumbling
- Units within 6" of ANY Vampire may march, not just general (includes Blood Knights, Black Coach and Varghulf)
- Possibly restriction that general must be a Vampire (similar to Tomb Kings where the general must be a Mummy)
- Units may not generally be healed beyond their initial number of models, with the exception of zombies. Certain vampire powers will also let you raise other units (wolves, bats and ghouls) beyond their initial number of models

Ethereal
- Latest rumour says it stays as it currently is.

Necromancy
- Spells generally have a shorter range than before
- Spells #0, 1 and 2 are called the Necromancy spells. These may be cast multiple times per caster instead of just once.
#0 Invocation of Nehek
- Every caster has it
- Very easy to cast
- Casters may cast the spell multiple times rather than just once each
- Heals any undead unit (d6+4 zombies, d6 of any other infantry unit, 1 wound for non-infantry or any kind of vampire)
#1 Summon Zombies
- Summons d6 +4 zombies
#2 Vanhel's Danse Macabre
- Lets you move a unit that is not in combat, as before
- For a unit that is already in combat, the effect is as for the old Hellish Vigour
#3 Gaze of Nagash
- Unchanged
#4 Curse of Years
- Easier to cast
#5 Wind of Undeath
- High casting value
- Every enemy *unit* takes *one* wound on a D6 roll of 4+ (no saves?)
- Wounds caused lets you create a new Spirit Host close to the caster with that number of wounds
#6 Summon Zombie Horde
- High casting value
- Can be used to create a new unit of 5d6 zombies, or heals 3d6 wounds, spread across the army as you wish, subject to the normal limitations (i.e. max 1 wound on vampires, etc.)

Lords

Vampire Count
- Only Lord choice apart from special characters
- Can get 100 pts of items plus 100 pts of vampire powers
- Fully tooled-up costs around 500 pts, not including the cost of a mount
- Starts as a level 2 wizard, may be upgraded to level 3 and further upgraded with the appropriate vampire power
- May ride a Zombie Dragon, Abyssal Terror ("Winged Nightmare"), Hellsteed (more or less and undead Pegasus, apparently) or an unbarded Nightmare. May also ride a barded Nightmare with the appropriate vampire power
- May explicitly always buy a magic weapon and wear magic armour, regardless of which vampire powers they buy

Vampire Lord: gone

Necromancer Lords: gone

Heroes

Vampire
- New name for Thralls
- Start as level 1 wizard, may be upgraded with the appropriate Vampire Power to level 2
- Can get 50 pts of items plus 50 pts of vampire powers
- May ride a Hellsteed or unbarded Nightmare. May also ride a barded Nightmare with the appropriate vampire power
- May explicitly always buy a magic weapon and wear magic armour, regardless of which vampire powers they buy

Necromancers
- Start off knowing the Invocation of Nehek, may be given spells #1 and/or 2 as well, for a given cost (relatively cheap)
- level 1 wizards, may not be upgraded
- cheap
- May be mounted in Corpse Carts

Wight Kings (new name for Wight Lords)
- Toughness increase

Wraiths: now a unit instead of a character

Core units

Skeletons
- New plastic models
- Come with hand weapons and light armour (following trend of reducing armour upgrade options for units)

Zombies
- Cheaper
- Strength 2, Toughness 2
- Really always strikes last
- Can not be joined by characters
- Can never pursue
- Only new unit you can raise
- Unit size 20+
- Command options for standards and musicians

Crypt Ghouls
- New plastic models
- Count as Undead(!) for simplicity's sake
- No longer skirmish
- Cheaper?
- Only command upgrade is a champion

Dire Wolves
- New plastic models
- Cheaper?
- Do not count towards your minimum number of Core units

Bat Swarm
- Count as Undead
- *Significantly* cheaper
- Lower Leadership
- Do not count towards your minimum number of Core units

Corpse Cart
- Possibly count as a monster rather than as a chariot
- Has a bound spell that gives the Always Strike First rule to friendly units within 6"
- Do not count towards the minimum number of Core units in the army
- Cheap
- Moves at Zombie walking speed
- Not very tough, but has Regeneration
- Doesn't fight very well (random number of zombie attacks
- May be upgraded to also give a -1 to enemy spell casting rolls or a +1 to wounds restored with the Incantation of Nehek nearby
- Do not count towards your minimum number of Core units

Special units

Grave Guard (possibly get a new name)
- New plastic models
- Come with shields
- May have great weapons

Black Knights
- Nightmares may move through terrain/obstacles without penalty, in the same manner as Ethereals can (not otherwise Ethereal)

Fell Bats
- Cheaper

Spirit Host
- Higher WS
- Unit size 3-10

Rare units

Black Coach
- 4+ ward
- can leech power from either player's Power Dice pool and from the personal Power Dice stores of wizards nearby (1/6th chance for each PD) giving it enhanced abilities permanently, in order(?): 1) Scythes, 2) Hatred, 3) Magic Resistance 3, 4) Killing Blow, 5) Ethereal, 6) Fly
- Wraith driver gets one more attack than before
- Count as a vampire for the purposes of marching nearby and healing

Knights of Blood Keep
- Essentially equivalent to old Thralls on steeds
- WS6, S5, T4, W1, A2, frenzy
- Expensive (more than 50 pts each)
- Lance, heavy armour, shield, barded Greater Nightmares (with S4 but not the terrain-crossing abilities Black Knights get)
- May have a magic banner, champion (Kastellan) might be able to take vampire powers
- Count as vampires for the purposes of marching nearby and healing

Varghulf
- M9 (does not fly)
- Stats more or less like a big monster (Hydra, Manticore, ...) rather than a small monster like a Gorger or Spawn
- Costs slightly less than a Giant
- Regeneration
- Terror
- Hatred of everything
- Not enough Unit Strength to negate ranks on a flank charge
- Count as a vampire for the purposes of marching nearby and healing

Cairn Wraiths
- Skirmishing unit
- Statwise much the same as currently, though obviously may not have magic items
- Wraiths have one attack more than previously
- May be joined by a Banshee (whose scream now works on all enemy units, including those ItP, and can be used as a stand and shoot charge reaction)

Empire army book rumours

- Released first (according to Namarie) or second (according to 75hastings69) quarter 2007

- Written by Graham McNeill (Games Day Atlanta 06)

- Expect more religious iconography

- Army deal expected in December 2006.

UPDATE: The studio guy said that the empire will have elements like the 'League of extraordinary gentlemen' - guns hidden in walking sticks etc. Also the engineers can mount a "hunter killer missile" on other warmachines for a st8 one off shot. I got the impression that the empire book will incorporate multi themed lists such as engineer themed etc etc. These are only rumours though.

New models
- New plastic regiment that will let you create Spearmen / Halberdiers and/or Swordsmen. Nicely detailed and not over the top. 10 models per set.

- New plastic regiment set that will let you build Handgunners or Crossbowmen. 10 models per set.

- More add-ons to the plastic knights set (hammers, wolf pelts, panther cloaks, alternate helmets etc.) (provided by 75hastings69)

- Plastic kit that allows you to make 6 Pistoliers or Outriders. Lots of little extras and a new unbarded horse.

- New Kurt Helborg (metal mounted model)

- New Ludwig Schwarzhelm (metal mounted model)

- Either a plastic Flagellant regiment set or a handful of extra metal Flagellants

- New rocket-type war machine (probably metal)

Shown below are some concept models by Felix Panigua. The new Empire plastics may or may not look like these, though these will NOT be cast up for production.
